Meet Sam the Neuroscientist - Drink Ārepa Australia

Sam is our new in-house Neuroscientist and will be sharing research on the benefits of Ārepa and its active ingredients in this issue of Brainfood.

Sam studied Neuroscience at Otago University before returning to his hometown and completing a Masters degree at the Centre for Brain Research under the guidance of Sir Richard Faull. After completing his Masters which contributed to the understanding of Alzheimer’s Disease, Sam spent a couple of years doing research in the area of Stroke Rehabilitation. The goal of this research was to find novel techniques for treating stroke patients, attempting to restore motor function and allowing people to regain quality of life.

“ I loved the concept and model of Ārepa as soon as I heard about it and was incredibly excited about the company. Their dedication to use clinical neuroscientific research is very inspiring and being able to use my background in the context of their products is an amazing opportunity. Their commitment to creating products that benefit the mental health and wellbeing of the general population is unique. This along with the cognitive benefits consumers of Ārepa gain, mean that everyone from all walks of life can be supported by Ārepa. Their products provide a proactive way for anyone to enhance their health and productivity and present a great opportunity for people to improve and extend their quality of life.”

Ārepa is all natural and caffeine-free, formulated by a world-leading neuroscientist with Pine Bark Extract, L-theanine, plus Neuroberry Blackcurrants packed with vitamin C to support focus and neurological function as part of a healthy and varied diet.

The benefits of L-Theanine for stress and anxiety

L-theanine, one of the key active ingredients in Ārepa and is well highlighted in this article. It discusses how stress is implicitly involved in mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression, additionally noting that long-term stress begins to manifest in physical health conditions also. The ability of L-theanine to attenuate stress continues to become more and more important as the mental health of the global population has continued to suffer due to the ongoing impacts of the pandemic. Close to 70% reported experiencing significant stress over the course of 2020.

The article nicely groups together much of the work done on stress, anxiety and depression in relation to L-theanine and also touches on its ability to improve cognition and mitigate the effects of insomnia. For those wanting a more in-depth understanding of just how L-theanine can have these wide-ranging effects, the authors elucidate all the cellular mechanisms involved, giving clear evidence for how these effects are possible.

L-theanine is an effective and safe way for anyone to support their mental health. Additionally it can be used to boost cognitive performance and is valuable to a range of people, from athletes to those just wanting to be calmer and more focused in their day-to-day.
